"Helping families have healthy pregnancies & babies
through stillbirth risk reduction"
About
“We get by with a little help from our friends” We know that it takes a village to raise a child. But this support system should be present from the time that little heartbeat flickers to life. This village is needed even more when sometimes, that tiny flicker becomes a star in the sky. Every year, there are over 100,000 stillbirths in Southeast Asia. This means that every day, 287 families received the devastating news that their full-term baby was not alive. However, a number of these losses can be prevented. Launched in July 2020, Project Sidekicks aims to reduce the stillbirths in the region by 10% by creating awareness about the benefits of sleeping on the side in pregnancy, counting baby’s kicks, giving up smoking and having a strong support system for both mums-to-be and parents who have suffered pregnancy loss. Adopting these actions can help reduce the risks of stillbirth by 30% to 50%. Help parents by being supportive, sharing your experiences and encouraging them to adopt these actions today!

Events/Initiatives
The definition of stillbirth adopted by countries has ripple effects on parents who experience stillbirth. We hope for countries to adopt a wider definition of stillbirth (from 24 weeks of gestation instead of 28 weeks) as a progressive step towards supporting parents and see improvements in stillbirth healthcare. This wider definition will enable more parents to experience maternity benefits that are needed for their recovery process.
